Long time no post

I do suck at blogging.

I had to withdraw from the Crossfit competition.  Family stuff came up.  Family stuff that kept me  from going  to Crossfit for a couple weeks.

SO I went today. Been a couple weeks.  I sucked.  Really.  I sucked.  Sucked wind, sucked ass.

Hope it doesn't take long to get back into it.  I need to get better.  I want to get better.

Been thinking of rejoining Weight Watchers.  I need something to help get my eating under control.

YAH! Deadlifts!! BOOO wall balls

I think you know what I liked about the workout, and what I hated about it too!

I actually RXed it!  The weights were 155lb for deads, and a14lbs wall ball.
5 rounds for time
10 deads
20 wall balls

I will admit, I'm only 99% sure I did all 20 reps in the 4th round.  I may have miscounted and only done 19.  Oh well.

Eating has been for me, wonderful.  I'm getting addicted to my morning or lunch time smoothies.  Mix at least 2 servings of veggies, baby spinach, kale and broccoli are my favorites, with at least a serving of fruits, blueberries, strawberries, bananas and mangos are my favorites.  A little almond milk, maybe some ice, and often a scoop of protein powder.   YUMMIE!

I can get 3 servings of fruits and veggies in before 8am, if I have one for breakfast.  Doesn't take much to get to that 5-7 servings at that rate.

So I suck at blogging sue me! LOL!

And I really do.  I've had other blogs in the past, and I'd be lucky to blog once a month. I know, pathetic.  I'd never make money as a blogger at that rate lol!

Anyway. I've discovered something.  I'm back counting calories again.  I need to cause the scale and measurements are stuck. So time to do a little figuring.

Its harder to get a higher calorie count when I really focus on getting lots of fruit and veggies in.  Did you know a cup of spinach only has like 10 calories?  And a cup of spinach is actually a lot!  I mean it.   I make smoothies almost every morning with one to two servings of veggies and one to two servings of fruit, a little almond milk and a little protein powder and all that fruit and veggies just don't add up to a lot of calories.   Same with kale.  And broccoli .  Yes, fruit adds more calories than most veggies, but dang, they are so good.  And fewer calories in a nice banana, or apple than a Snickers bar.

So, I'm counting calories, trying to eat healthier, and get my protein in, and hit my workouts.  I've got like 45 days til the big competition.  HOLY SHIT!

I got a 25lbs kettlebell, and I've been trying to do swings a couple times an evening.  I'm actually thinking of starting a couple days a week, getting up early, and going for a run. No, aliens have not taken over my body.  I actually said, get up early.  For those who don't know me, I'm about as much a morning person as Hitler was a Jewish person fan.  I'm a natural born night owl.  Stay up til 3am, no problem.  Get up before 8am, WTF?

Sat I'm planning a trip to the outlet mall in Williamsburg.  Is it weird that my main stores I want to hit is the Under Armor, Reebok, and Nike stores?   Well, that and Coach lol!   I'm gonna get some new stuff to workout in!

Then as I come home, a swing through Costco, and get some more fruit and veggies along with eggs.

I think making sure I'm eating healthier is making me feel better, and my skin looks better.  Every week I try to make a small change that I can maintain, and it just keeps building and building.

4 MIns of living hell!

I'm beginning to think my Crossfit instructor is a sadist who would make Christian Grey look like a weenie with a belt.

Today was tabatas.

Then take this time 4.  And add more sweat, a lot more sweat!

Tabata is take a move, any move, say, squats.
20 seconds on 10 second of rest, for 8 total rounds.
Sounds easy right.  If you think so, do it.  I dare you.  It will make 4 mins seem like 20.   Then do 3 more rounds.

We did the first set of 4 mins of air squats.  My legs were screaming the last 2 rounds.
Then we moved onto pullups,  Whatever version you could do.  I picked ring rows, cause while I can do band pullups, I can only do them kind of slow, and I can't do them for 4 mins
Oh, then the next torture move was ab mat sit ups.  WTF!
Then pushups.   Literally I didn't think I could get up off the mat after that 8th round my arms were shaking so bad.

Then I got up, and I felt so awesome!  I did it, and I didn't die!

I pick things up and put them down

Yes, I just quoted a goofy commercial lol!

Today was probably one of my favorite Crossfit WODs ever.  Lifting!!!!!

We worked on back squats
deadlifts
and overhead press.
Rather, finding out one rep max for them.

I upper my max on two of the three.  Upped my back squats from 175lbs to an even 200lbs.  And I think I could have gone a little heavier, but we only had 20mins and I wanted to move on.

Deadlifts went from 225 to 230lbs.  Not a big jump, but I went up, and that's what counts.

Overhead press, my nemesis.   One time, I managed to press 105lbs.  I think all the planets were in alinement, and somehow gravity was reduced by 5% that day, cause I've never really gotten close to that again.  Until today when I did 100lbs.  But I couldn't get 105lbs up.   Maybe had I done shoulder press first, maybe had it not been hot in the building ( there is no air conditioning).  However, I'm still pretty happy to even get close.

I ate way to much junk over the holiday weekend.  That needs to end!  Today eats were good.  And tomorrows will be too.

Speaking of tomorrow, I'm betting it will be heavy in cardio, cause well, we just did my all weights, which I love, so of course we'll have to do cardio, which I'm not a big fan of.  But I need it.

I RXed that WOD!

Ok, for those of you unfamiliar with Crossfit Wods  or workouts, there is a prescription for each WOD.  How the coach wants you do to the workout.  A lot of us, esp those of us a little less fit, or new, or whatever, scale things down to where we can do it.  But the goal is to RX the workout, or do it how it was meant to be done.

I RXed the WOD tonight.   It was 20 min AMRAP( as many rounds as possible) of

20 hand release pushups
50 air squats.

I did good old on my toes pushups.  So what if by my last round, 5 in all, I was doing 2 pushups then taking a break, 2 push ups, break, until I got my 20 in.  I did them on my toes dang it!

And this was after the warmup and deadlift strength work. Like I said yesterday, I love me some deadlifts!

I was a little light in calories today according to my calculations.  I sort of forgot my cashews at home, and they would have put me right where I want to be.  Oh well, one day of fewer calories might just do me some good.

Tomorrow, provided its not raining, I'm planning on going out for a run/walk to see how I do.

I wonder when we will ever find our one rep max again?  I bet I could deadlift more now.  And maybe squat more too.

Oops been a little while

So I suck at posting.  Sue me!  You won't get much.

I signed up for my 3rd 5K today.  I think I may have gone insane.  I'm doing my 3rd 5K.  OMG!  And I'm planning on running more of it that I did last time too.  Really and for true.   I'm gonna try to get done in 40 mins or less.  But if I can get done in under 45min I will be under my last 5K time so its all good!

Today's WOD was a good one.  Except for the whipping I took lol.
14 mins as many rounds as possible or  AMRAP

40 Double unders ( sub 120 regular jumps)
25wall balls
10 deadlifts

I had a 12lbs ball, I wanted heavier but the 14lbs were gone, and I was to wimpy to use a 20lbs ball
I also used 145lbs for the deadlifts. I LOVE LOVE LOVE deadlifts!!!!!  I really could have done 25 deadlifts and 10 wall balls and been happy.

I did manage to do some double unders.  And I managed to whip myself with my rope.  Oh well.  Bruises fade. But double unders/jumping rope get you into shape!   Or kill you, whatever.

I've started a cute notebook to track my food and my workouts.   Its got shoes all over the cover, cause well, I'm a shoeaholic.  But sadly, none are crosstrainers.

I'm already looking forward to tomorrows WOD.   Then I'm planning a run/walk on Fri.   I've got to find my timer so I can start tracking my time cause I want to get better at running so bad.

Offically in training!

Yep.  I'm considering all workouts to be me training.

I'm always amazed how much better I feel when I get 3-4 workouts in a week.  Be it Crossfit, or out for a run/walk or whatever.  I sleep better, I'm happier, its easier for me to eat cleaner cause I don't want to ruin good results from workouts.  And everything just feels tighter, and I'm not talking my clothes.  I'm meaning my butt feels tighter, higher, my arms seem like they giggle less, my stomach seems smaller.

Today's WOD was   50 alt pistols,  14 dips, 14 pushups or ring rows, 10 hand cleans.  I used  75lbs for cleans, and think I could have bumped it up to 80-85lbs to be honest.  Maybe next time.

I also did some bench press with 75%-85% and 95% of my one rep max.  Well, not quite, but very close.  I think I topped out with 110lbs for 4reps and it should have been 115lbs.  Close enough.    I'd really like to get my bench press a little higher, but I'm having a little trouble getting it up there.  I just need to work on it.

The weekend wasn't good on my eating.  I need to work on not overdoing it on weekends.  I do pretty well during the week.  Not perfect, but a vast improvement over how I use to eat.  But the weekends are where I seem to need more help.  I wish my hubby cared just a little more about eating well.  He doesn't and that makes it harder when he fixes supper more often than not.  I try to do my best, but well, it would be easier if he cared at all.   When he worked evenings, and I fixed supper, I could make some really good healthy stuff and he'd  not want to eat the veggies.  Oh well, more for me!

I'm just going to have to step it up, and maybe just fix my own supper when I get home from my WOD.

You can just call me an athlete!

Because I have gone and signed up for a Crossfit competition in Sept.

Somehow, when I was oxygen deprived, I decided that signing up for the Master Women division was a wonderful idea, and I did it,

So, now I'm not just a chubby mom of 43 looking to get into better shape doing Crossfit.  I'm a Crossfit athlete training for a competition.    How about that.

So, I've got just under 3 months to work hard, and get so I don't totally embarrass myself. I don't mind coming in last, cause someone has to. I just don't want to feel like I did bad.

I hit Crossfit Mon and Tue.  And today, my shoulders were so sore I just couldn't make myself go.  So I hit the nature trail and did 3 miles of walk/run.  Should have timed myself so I can keep track of any improvements.  I'll look for my gymboss so I can start timing myself.   I ran portions of each quarter mile, except for one.  I was getting tired and hungry.  I'm going to try and do more run/walks or in my case for now, more walks than runs, on off Crossfit days.  I will always give myself one day just off, cause a rest day is so needed.

And then, shortly after I signed up for my competition, I found this on either Tumblr or Pinterest.

Its now my new motto til at least Sept 7th.  Maybe longer if it helps.

I should have gone heavier

Yep, I really should have packed more weight on that dang bar today.  I know I could have easily gone 10lbs heavier.

The WOD today was 3 rounds for time of
50 air squats
14 pullups or ring rows
14 ring dips or box dips
10 hang cleans

I did 65lbs for hang cleans, and I really should have done 75lbs or even 80lbs.  Oh well.

I managed in 15min 35 seconds.

I really need to work on my cardio capacity, cause mainly it was slowing down to catch my breath.

25 years and counting.

I will only make 2 Crossfit workout this week but that's cause yesterday my hubby and I celebrated our 25 year anniversary.  Yep, married 25 years.  Sounds weird cause it doesn't feel like 25 years.  So I took half a day off work then in the evening, we took the kids out to eat.  Yummie steak!  So yummie!!

Today was a partner WOD.  Neesie came with me, and she's a great partner.  Ok, so she didn't give her old fat mother much chance to catch her breath, but she was a great partner.

The workout was a 15 min AMRAP workout consisting of:
20 Box Jumps
20 Squats
20 Pullups
20 burpees.

We split them 10 of each.  We got through 4 rounds, but I have a feeling had I told Nees to do 20 box jumps at the end she would have busted them like a champ!    She even said she was coming back with me tomorrow.   What a champ!

I love Crossfit

I was so sad for the last couple of weeks.  I have had other commitments that have kept me from getting to Crossfit.  I tried to workout at home, but well, I just don't push myself nearly as hard as I do when I'm with my fellow Misfits at my box.  I just don't have the same feeling working out at home like I use to.

Well, this week, I've managed to get to 3 WODs and I freaking LOVE IT!

Yes, I bitch and moan during the WOD.  Yes, I feel sometimes, even if I give it my all, I should be doing better.  Yes, I sometimes wonder why I bother to show up, I don't think I can do that WOD,  I just want to quit, that I actually pay to do this when I could use the money on new shoes.

Then the workout is over, and I feel elated that I survived. I did something so awesome for myself!  I'm over the moon that I can see how far I've come.  I can see where I want to go.

I'm going to rock Crossfit this summer, and things are only gonna get better.

I love Crossfit!

Oh my aching ass!

WOW!  What a WOD!  It had running in it, but it was only a 200m run.  But it was several times.   We ran a 400 for part of a warm up.  Then here was the workout:
 run 200,
 20 burpees,
 run 200,
20 burpees,
200 yard walking lunges,
run 200,
100 rockers,
10step ups
and another 200.

Holy crap!  WTF!   200 yards of walking lunges.  My ass is on fire!

And let me tell you how hard it was to run again right after that.

But I did it, and I ran every step of the way!

So good to be back.

Even if I hated the WOD today lol!

It was a WOD with 50 yes, 50 burpees.  In 4 mins.  I barely got them done.  Barely.  And I felt a little urpee after.

Then a few minutes of doing box jumps, to figure out what our max jump was.

Then a 400 m run. I don't like to run, even if I want to get better, and actually be good at it.  I still don't like running.

Now, I just need to work on my hubby's cooking.  He's been cooking supper at night, and well, his version of clean food is if it doesn't have pet hair in it.  Sigh.

Ugh what a week

Ok, so last week I had kid stuff in the evenings.  Great.  That's when I hit Crossfit.  I did some walking and kept my eating pretty good.  Well as good as I can during Hell Week.  You ladies know what I mean.   I didn't eat bags full of potato chips and my body weight in chocolate, so I did well.

This week, its also been Hell week but for a totally different reason.  State inspection at the nursing home I work at.  Now, I'm filling in for the Assistant DON who is on maternity leave.  I've been doing this for about 2 days when state shows up.  EEK!  I'm not 100% sure what to do anyway, then add this shit?  My stress level hit about one million.  And I usually don't get stressed out bad.  But I was this week.

No Crossfit or well, any workout this week.  I would come home so wiped out, I just sat, soaked in a hot bathtub, and went to bed early.  I was ok with my eating.  Not great cause a bunch of staff members brought crap to eat.  Donuts, cookies, sticky rolls, jelly beans. OMG!  It was all over the place.  But I managed to only eat half a dounut, and a couple handfuls of jelly beans.  I avoided the sticky rolls, and the cookies!  Hurray for me!  There once was a time I would have eaten a little of everything.

Inspection is over now!  It went well.  Good for the staff that works there.  They did an amazing job!

But I can't even go to Crossfit on Sat morning, cause hubby wants to go camping.  I'm more like "whatever"  I'd rather not but he's been itching to take the new camper out since the day we bought it.  I'd rather Crossfit on Sat morning and take a nap in my own bed and not in a camper.

I've got to hit the grocery store soon.  Only bad thing about my clean eating, is needing to get fruit pretty often.   And veggies. And eggs lol!

I'm so glad this week is same as over.  Feels like this week took 2 weeks.  I just want to get a good night sleep and get to sleep later cause I don't have to go in early and won't have to stay late!

Here's my new blog

I've not blogged in like 4 years.  I'm sure I won't blog much, but hey, once a week or so, I think I can manage it.

I'm really getting into Crossfit. Ok, not so much this week.  Between meetings for my kids, and two longer than usual workdays, I just can't seem to get there.  But I really love it when I get to go.  Even
if I'm muttering under my breath some really vile 4 letter words during lol!

But I'd really like to be a part-time runner.  Now, I freaking HATE running.  Ok, maybe that's not true. I like the idea of running.  I've wanted to be a runner for quite some time.  I hate the side effects of running.  For me, shin splints.  I have read that those will diminish with time, and maybe a different running technique.  So I'm just going to have to work on it.  Get over it and work on it.  My cardio capacity sucks!  Sucks ass big time.  I'd be better at Crossfit, which I really want to be, if I didn't feel like my lungs were going to explode.   So this spring and summer will be all about improving my cardio capacity.

But my main battle, my diet.  I did a Clean Eating challenge earlier this year, and for me, did outstanding.  I lost 5lbs, and was feeling better, and well, was starting to try different foods.  But in the last while, my hubby, who had been working til 8pm, is now not working.  Its ok, he's retired military and gets a decent retirement.  But he's home and making supper. I usually hit Crossfit in the early evening like 6:30pm or so.  His version of "clean eating" is eating on clean plates.  And a little more take out than I want.  Sigh.  I've eating way to much shit food in the last 3 weeks he's not been working.  I've gained weight, like the 5lbs I lost during my clean eating challenge, and feel fat and bloated.  I need to teach him what's some good food, good clean food, to cook, or just do it myself after Crossfit like I did before.

I did my first 5K this last Sat.  OK, so I sucked at the running.  That's ok, I jogged a little, walked the rest and didn't finish last LOL!  I'm signed up for another one, and plan on training/running a little more to actually run a little more of it.

I'm reading Tosca Reno's Clean Eating books again.  They give me a good foundation to build a good diet on.  Now to teach my hubby how to cook clean, or at least cook semi-clean.
